It's so nice to be relaxing today knowing it's a long weekend (not back until Tuesday)! We went to Yum Cha at Sunnybank today which was lovely, and then I marked some of my senior assessment.

It's been SO long since I've created a full resource, that I thought it'd be nice to share a small freebie for you all! I LOVE making Math clipart that I can use in my classroom and in my worksheets.

Soon I will finish a COMPLETE set of fraction clipart in various colours to purchase, but until then, I hope you can get some use from these :)

NEW Probability Unit

I've finally finished Uni (Master of Education half complete!!!) for this semester and have had some time last night to complete my Probability Unit! It's 20% off for a little while too! :)

The unit has 20 probability word walls to display around your room with the 7 activities being very engaging, colourful and multilevel  for students. They can be laminated and used as Math Centres or photocopied in grayscale and used as worksheets!

Level 1 and 2 students write as ___ out of ___ and level 3 students write as a fraction and simplify where possible.

I cannot wait to spend more time on my resources now I will have the time! I cannot believe it's week 5 this week already! My year 12's are finished at the end of week 6! Time is flying... 

FLASH Halloween SALE & Pictures

I'm having 15% off storewide to celebrate my fantastic Halloween weekend!

What an extremely BUSY weekend. I couldn't have had a more exciting time with Max (and all of us) carving our very first pumpkin! 

A very awesome experience and very effective lit up at the front windows. 

We went to the Manly Harbour Halloween festival and unfortunately we ended up very wet and windy because of poor weather, but it was a fantastic evening with my 2 DEVILS! 

I have so many resources on my 'to create list' but I don't finish this semesters UNI assessment until this Friday, so after that I will be free to create!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend and a great beginning to the week is on its way! :) 

My FIRST Halloween & NEW Probability Unit

We don't really celebrate Halloween in Australia and consequently I've never dressed up in Halloween costume!

The closest I've come to Halloween is our Annual Kiters Sports Day and as you can see from the pictures in 2010 it was Angels & Devils themed!

It will be REALLY EASY to dress Scott & Max up as Devils! Me on the other hand... I have a witches hat... and that's it =\  We're also going to carve a pumpkin too! ANOTHER FIRST!

I'd love some suggestions as to what to wear for Halloween?

A sneak peak of the Probability Unit!

I've also been working on a probability unit with 20 Probability Word Walls and so far with 7 separate math centres over three levels!

I'm still working on Instructions, more levels and answers. I'm excited to complete this unit and use it next year (who knows what year level I'll have then!).

Fraction, Decimal & Percentage Dominos in USE!

I took a lot of photos towards the end of last term and I completely forgot to upload them! Here are my year 8s using my Halloween Percentage and Fraction & Fraction and Decimal Dominoes. I just love how creative they became when arranging them! They were competing with each other for the most confusing maze :)

It was so lovely to see some of my lower level students being able to use their calculators to divide the fractions and get the decimal or percentage answer and see the relationships between them as they progressed through the cards! It was adorable to see one of my highest level year 8 students ask me to remind him how you convert between fractions and percentages (4/20 the specific question)! After one example, needless to say he was extremely embarrassed and laughed it off! :)

It reminds me how necessary continual revision of concepts are throughout the entire year and how easy it is to focus only on the set curriculum which benefits students at the time, but not in the long run.

FREEBIE Fraction Tri Ominos

I admit it.... Even though I don't want to.... Fraction Tri Ominos was my husbands idea! This is what happens when we're both teachers and we discuss TpT!

I must say I really loved making them as a FREEBIE to you all the say thank you for your continual support and encouragement.

If they are popular and well liked, I will consider making more including Rounding Tri Ominos! How exciting and confusing to plan and make to begin with! A VERRRYYY large piece of paper was needed!

Back to bolting on the 4m bearers to the Gazebo! :) Will post a picture soon!

 

Seal KISS & 5 days left...

Talk about exhausted! There are 5 school days left of this term and after completing 124 different report cards for Maths this weekend, Max's (step-son) swimming club night, Saturday squad & Little Athletics, I've finished it off with my husband and Max at Underwater World. I even managed a seal kiss - It was amazing. The 1.5 hour drive each way was completely worth it :)

I've blogged before about how I've organised my Math Center and I must say it has been working extremely well. Both my year 8 classes have an A3 laminated page with all the current Math Center activities listed at the top of the columns. My activities that contain two or more levels, I have split then into different activity levels as you can see on my chart.

Even my year 8's (12-14 year olds) love coming to show me their working out, solutions and their honesty when they mark their work and have made an error in their calculations. I have had some time to take a photo and the below picture shows my year 8's beginning to play my Pirate Percentage & Fraction Dominoes game.

It's so great to see them working together to solve Mathematics problems and having Mathematical arguments as to who is right and who is wrong, then calling me over to "end" it!



I always wonder what other type of theme parks like UnderwaterWorld there are around the world!? Is that what they are called still - a theme park even if it's animals!?

Favourite Fraction Game & my upcoming SALE!

This year especially, I've found my year 8 and 9 students don't have the understanding of fractions that they should! Considering they should have this understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages at a year 5/6 level, it's SCARRY!

One of the more engaging ways I check for student understanding is to use my Jumping Fractions 5 Ways game throughout relevant units and as a general review throughout the term.

The reason I check for understanding this way is that all students can match the visual representation with the fraction. Then from there the language and it becomes either the percentage, decimal OR simplified fraction that they struggle with.

To ensure this game covers the various learning abilities, I split it into four sets.

• Set 1 - 83 cards - Match tenths fractions in all representations
• Set 2 - 31 cards - Match fifths fractions in all representations
• Set 3 - 25 cards – Match quarters fractions in all representations
• Set 4 - 9 cards – Additional simplified fraction cards to add to each level.
