 As a year 8 and year 9 teacher I know how important it is for students to thoroughly understand co-ordinates/ ordered pairs. I often have students struggle and wanted an engaging, fun and rewarding way for students to practice their skills.

 I have created co-ordinate activity cards where students begin with an A4 print out, fold along line 1, complete their design and decorate it, fold along line 2 and then complete a literacy activity by writing a letter or card and giving it to someone else.

So far I have created 10 different designs ranging in difficulty level. The easiest design is the Christmas tree and aeroplane and the most challenging design is the Gingerbread Man and the Skull & crossbones.

We have a star among us! Christmas Co-ordinate/ Ordered Pairs/ Graphing Picture

Max saw some of my Halloween and Easter co-ordinate/ ordered pairs/ graphing pictures I had in a folder ready to digitally create them. 

He asked for his own blank copy of the graph paper and wanted to create his own. 

He drew a picture and I taught him how to write the ordered pairs! 

Needless to say he has done an AMAZING job and I couldn't be MORE proud of him. 

He asked me to draw his picture again (I did the outline) and we coloured it in together! 

He was so proud of his work and knowing that it would go towards a TpT Christmas bundle made him even MORE excited!

Anyway, keep an eye out for this and other awesome Halloween, Easter, Christmas and other such graphing items! :)

UPDATE - FREEBIE Easter Co-ordinate, Graphing, Ordered Pairs Pictures

My last blog post about my FREEBIE Easter Co-ordinate, Graphing, Ordered Pairs Pictures I promised I would upload some photos of my students work when they completed the task themselves! 

On the last day of term we never have anywhere near the attendance rate we should! Mainly because it backs onto a 2 week holiday and most parents want to get away on holidays earlier!

So I KNEW my kiddies would love this (even though they're year 9 but also because earlier this year we looked at gradients, equations and plotting points), so this was a great and simple review and they LOVED IT!

They spent so much time making their images beautifully presented as you can see from the pictures!

I have also UPDATED my FREE Easter Co-ordinate, Graphing, Ordered Pairs Picture on TpT to contain TWO Easter themed plotting images! 

It now has the above image over the four quadrants from -8 to 8 for your little ones who can plot on the whole Cartesian plane.

Nothing is better than a fun Easter Math freebie to help your little ones enjoy plotting co-ordinates/ ordered pairs! :)

This cute little freebie focuses on the first quadrant from the origin to x=15 and y=15.

 I look forward to using this as a consolidation activity with my year 8 and 9 students in the last lesson of this Term :)

Valentines Day in Maths - PHOTOS

After yesterdays blog post about the Valentines Day Math Activities I was going to do with my years 9s, I thought I would upload some photos of their work!

They really enjoyed being given the opportunity to not only work in pairs, but to be a part of the Year 9 Math wall and demonstrating ownership and pride in their understanding and work!

There were so many students helping others who had missed some lessons and needed some guidance, along with two students who managed to create two seperate hands rather than attached hands with a heart in the middle! lol

Valentines Day in Maths! Middle and High School



At my High School, apart from selling and having roses delivered to students (fake ones!), we don't seem to cover Valentines Day like its covered in Primary School.

SsssoooOooOoooOooooooo... I'm going to change that!

I saw this AMAZING idea somewhere where you fold a piece of A4 paper in half, place your hand so that your thumb and index finger touch the creased side and trace!

I made the mistake on my first one below to place my thumb straight which means your heart looks a little sad! You will have to get your little ones to bend their thumb a bit to make more of a heart shape!

I am using these with both my Year 9s tomorrow. They are going to work in pairs to complete a table, graph and determine the rule based on a rate I give them.

I created this example for students and I will put them up on their Year 9 Bulletin Board when they finish!

I know I will hear from them "I heart Maths",but that is what I'm hoping for!
